Why "Dojo"

🕐 Reading time: 3 min

In Japan, a dojo is where you train. You come to get better, you follow rules, and nothing is done halfway. The word felt right for a card shop. Here is what it means for us, concretely, and not as a slogan.

Doing things properly

Rigour is the least we owe you. A card is described as it is: its real condition, its exact rarity, its language, its set. No embellishment, no vagueness. If a card has a flaw, it is stated. We would rather have an honest listing than a forced sale. And every order leaves carefully packed, because a card that travels badly is worth nothing.

A graded card is still a card in a case

Let us be clear on a point that is often misunderstood. A graded card is sealed in a rigid case with a grade assigned by a company. That case protects it and certifies its condition at the time of assessment. It does not make the card magical, and it does not replace your own judgement. We explain what a grade is worth, what it does not tell you, and we let you decide. That is the whole point of our articles.

Getting better, together

A dojo is also a place where you learn. The card market is full of codes, acronyms and traps that put beginners off. Our job is to make it clear: understanding a rarity, reading a condition, knowing what you are buying. Whether you are starting out or have been collecting for years, the idea is the same: leave with a card and with what you need to know about it.

The Japanese influence

If we talk about a dojo, it is not for the look. It is for a certain idea of work done well, inherited from a culture where attention to detail and respect matter. Japan is also the heart of the hobby, where the finest cards come out. It guides the way we select, describe and present what we offer.

A family that will grow

We are starting with Pokémon and One Piece, because those are the worlds we know and love. But the catalogue will grow. Other games and other series will join the Dojo in time. The spirit will not change: doing things properly, telling the truth about what we sell, and giving everyone what they need to understand it better.

That is the Dojo. Not a backdrop, a way of working.
